SUMMARY:Trails Committee Meeting 15 May 2025
DESCRIPTION:A reminder about chainsaw safety:\nBolton is unusual in that it allows some volunteers from the Trails Committee to use chainsaws on Town property. We have that privilege because those of us that have taken the safety class are trusted. At this time\, these individuals are the only volunteers that are allowed to do this work and they undertake to follow safely guidelines and wear protective gear. \nMany members of the Team have been busy with the Color Coding project because of time constraints\, so some items have languished. \nDraft agenda: \n1. Trust meeting. \n2. Backyard Bolton. \n3. Trust Acquisitions .Anything new? \n4. Rattlesnake Bog Bridge  \n5. Wilder \n\nBridge Repair Repair with the same materials within the same footprint will not require an NOI. A replacement with different materials and/or footprint shall require a Notice of Intent. \n\n6. Scouts’ projects: \n\nFyfeshire Bridge Repair\nPeach Hill Bridge repair\nBallville Trash Removal\nVaughn Hills Pond submerged boardwalk removal\nWilder Road Map installation (Needs coordination with other groups)\n\n7. Greg and neighbor (Vu Alexander) have been moving some waste as he takes his regular hikes. Volunteer days needed. \n8. Volunteer newsletter \n9. Bowers: Invasives Sessions\, etc. \n10. Hikes. Any more? Wildflower hike went ahead. Any more ideas? \n11. Wildflower walk document. Should the Trust publish a hard copy (suggestion from Bob)? \n12. Blocking them off does not have an effect. Is there some signage that we can use?\nTrail re-routing near the Moen entrance; do we need to do anything?\n\n16. Trail color coding. Work has started\, implementation commences this month. Must be finished by the end of May. \nMap https://boltontrails.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/6-Rattlesnake-Color-Code-draft-9-Apr-2025.pdf \nTrail head maps installed https://boltontrails.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Rattlesnake-Field-Apr-2025-Draft-3.pdf \nLengths extracted from the gps tracks: \nYellow 1700 Meters = 5\,577 feet 5.134 inches = 1.06 Miles – Needs markers and stickers\nWhite 2277 Meters = 7\,470 feet 5.669 inches = 1.4 miles – Done\nGreen 2331 Meters = 7\,647 feet 7.654 inches = 1.5 miles – Done\nOrange 2300 Meters = 7\,545 feet 11.181 inches = 1.42 miles – In  progress\nBlue 2596 Meters = 8\,517 feet 0.724 inches = 1.6 miles – Done \n17. SUMMARY:Map and Post installation Work Party
DESCRIPTION:Hello to Trails Volunteers from Bolton Trails Committee. \nWe are looking for about 5 volunteers to help to install Trail Maps and posts. You may have noticed that new maps have been appearing at various places on the Town’s conserved land – there are still more and the majority of these require 4X4 posts. \nDate: the morning of Saturday 23 October. \nMeet at the Woodside Drive parking area – 9:00 am. \nThis is likely to be the first of a few opportunities to help. This first work party will be working at Moen/Vaughn Hills (2 posts) and Bowers Springs (2 posts). If we have time\, we will continue and install some maps and posts on Powder House Hill (2 maps and posts). \nThe posts and equipment must be carried in. If you have useful equipment for digging post holes\, then feel free to bring it. \nRSVP.
