Early stage white oak galls
May 28, 2022
In May 2022, Betsy Taylor-Kennedy saw these early stage oak galls on Wattaquadock Hill. They will turn into the familiar green and then brown balls that can be seen later in the season. Each gall holds the single larvae of a wasp in a hard seed-like cell in the center. The wasp that emerge through a hole. Afterwards the wall of the gall will dry to a brown paper-thin membrane.
