Signs Repaired at Gould-White

A team of Chris and Leslie DeMers, aided by Gordon Taylor tackled problems with the signage at the Gould-White conservation area. First, the post for the “You are Here” map at the trailhead for he Brendan Ridge Trail had rotted and the structure was lying on the ground. Digging a suitable post hole was very difficult because of roots, buried rocks and the closeness of underlying “ledge” to the surface. the problem was eased because it was possible to use the existing post, but shorted by removal of the rotted wood. Eventually a suitable location was found and the map reinstalled.

Newly reinstalled map on post

The second item was the Bolton Conservation “Gould” sign where posts had also rotted. This was even more problematic. After several attempts using a gasoline powered auger to dig a suitable hole. No place was found where the ledge rock was more than a foot or so below the surface. Posts were shortened posts were used and rocks at the bottom to reinforce the installation.
