Welch Pond Trail extended to Sawyer Road

A team of Boy Scouts, friends and relatives led by Eagle-Scout candidate, John Mortimer, extended the Welch Pond Trail to Sawyer Road by clearing a route over a Town Conservation corridor up a hill and through woods to a set of steps down to the road. This had been a long standing item on the Town Conservation Commission’s approved project list.
Te project required, marking and routing within tight boundaries, lessening the steepness in some places by making zigzags. Also required was making, painting and installing signs, replacing an adding trail head maps. The new path necessitated clearing undergrowth building stone steps to ease the final section down to the road.
